What does 100% humidity look like? ›

It just means that the air is holding as much moisture as it can at a given temperature, in the form of water vapor, which is an invisible gas. However, near 100% relative humidity, you can get water vapor condensing into very small water droplets to form clouds, including fog near the surface.

If the relative humidity is 100 percent (i.e., dewpoint temperature and actual air temperature are the same), this does NOT necessarily mean that precipitation will occur. It simply means that the maximum amount of moisture is in the air at the particular temperature the air is at.

At 100% relative humidity, the air is saturated and is at its dew point. In the absence of a foreign body on which droplets or crystals can nucleate, the relative humidity can exceed 100%, in which case the air is said to be supersaturated.

The most common is with a hygrometer. This tool measures the amount of water vapor in the air and gives you a percent reading. Another way to measure humidity is by using a psychrometer. A psychrometer is similar to a hygrometer as it also measures both temperature and humidity.

Purchase a Hygrometer

Hygrometers are widely available and the easiest way to get an accurate reading. According to Energy Star, the humidity level in your home should stay between 30-50%. A hygrometer will allow you to monitor your humidity levels, which you should do regularly to ensure consistency.

Hygrometers are available at most hardware stores, and they're relatively simple to use. Just place the device in an area of your home that you'd like to measure, and wait for the reading to stabilize. Once it does, you'll have an accurate measurement of the humidity level in that particular room or area.

A relative humidity of 0% would make it feel like it's only 69° F (20.5° C). On the other hand, a relative humidity of 100% would make it feel like it's 80° F (26.6° C).
