Swing Band to Play “Music in the Prairie.”
The New Horizons Swing Band will play at the Triangle Ministry's first ever "Music in the Prairie" jazz event. What better way to spend a splendid fall afternoon than listening to fine jazz while enjoying Madison's terrific fall weather.
It's all happening Saturday, September 24, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Advent Lutheran/Madison Christian Community, 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison.
Entertainment begins with the lively dance music of our very own New Horizons Swing Band at 3 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. musical duo Chris Anderson and Jim O’Connor of Back2Back take the stage with mellow, easy-listening selections. Chance Allies with jazz vocalist Tisha Brown and accompanist David Allen finish out the evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with the music of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and Louis Armstrong.
The event is free and open to the public; a voluntary offering will be taken to support the mission and ministry of Triangle Community Ministry (TCM), a non-profit organization serving the underserved population of the Triangle neighborhood in downtown Madison for 38 years. A silent auction with gift certificates from local food purveyors and businesses, gift baskets and art items will be held inside the church with all proceeds going towards TCM. Taquitos Marimar and Buzzy’s Lake House will be on hand to sell food and beverages.
Music in the Prairie is both a celebration of the ministry’s recent growth and a fund raising event to ensure its ongoing service to the residents of the low income housing in the Triangle, the area bounded by Park, Regent and W. Washington.
