New Music Festival Launches August 13
Started in 2016 by Madison-born composer Zachary Green, the Madison New Music Festival aims to strengthen Madison’s cultural vitality through the celebration of contemporary works. The festival will present brand new pieces by the world’s leading living composers, shine a spotlight on new music being created in Wisconsin, and finally, share underplayed classics of the contemporary repertoire with the Madison community. The concert takes place Saturday, August 13 7:30 PM – 10 PM Madison Museum of Contemporary Art 227 State St, Madison, Wisconsin 53703
It features a diverse range of composers including: Pulitzer-winner John Luther Adams Grammy-winner Eric Whitacre Celebrated Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu Celebrated English composer Brian Ferneyhough as well as Wisconsin composers such as: Renowned opera composer Daron Hagen Emerging composers JP Merz and Kimberly Osberg and a world premiere by recent Juilliard graduate and festival director Zachary Green.
It also feature performers from around the midwest, including: Ukranian-born Madison-based Pianist Yana Avedyan (of the New Muse Ensemble) Chicago-based Flutist Robin Meiksins Chicago-based LUNA Voice & Piano Duo Principal Bassoonist of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic JJ Sechan |
