Atlanta is quite central, which means just about any vacation destination in Georgia is within a reasonable distance. With this, there are some pretty amazing resorts nearby. From the rustic to the refined, there’s something for every family, solo traveler or couple during any season. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a quick weekend trip or want to road trip around Georgia and stay at some neat places. Regardless, these are our favorite resorts near Atlanta.
Barnsley Resort, Adairsville
Barnsley Resort in Adairsville is barely over an hour from Atlanta and is worth the drive. The aesthetics are ornate and rich, with parts of the property dating back to the 1800s. Bathrooms feature clawfoot tubs, while the modernized pool is clean-cut and refined. The golf course is massive and pristine—the perks are endless. There’s a 24-hour snack service, and the kiddos can even grab s’mores in the lobby. Every square inch of this place is basically straight out of a movie.
Chateau Elan Winery & Resort, Braselton
What could be more perfect than staying at a luxe Chateau that sets amongst sweeping fields of vineyards? Braselton is slightly north of Atlanta, around 50 miles to be exact, and houses the stunning Chateau Elan Winery & Resort, which doubles as a winery and spa getaway. Enjoy impeccable food and wine pairings, indulge in world-class spa facilities, explore the vinyards and melt into the lavish surroundings that happen to be near the city.
Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa, Young Harris
The North Georgia Mountains have a rustic, welcoming ambiance that’s particularly magical during the fall, particularly wonderful while on a horseback ride. Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa in Young Harris is a two-hour trek from the city and exudes a cabin-like feel while still feeling quite updated and modern. Some windows peer toward the gorgeous surrounding peaks, and outdoor paths and lounging space will connect you more deeply to nature. Not to mention, the outdoor pool is simply dreamy.
Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort, Stone Mountain
Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort is quite proximal to Atlanta, located slightly east of the city in Stone Mountain. Marriott has outdone itself with this resort—rooms are polished, views from the windows are beautiful, dining areas are remarkably sleek, and the pool area is spacious and streamlined. But the coolest part is being right there at one of Georgia’s coolest attractions, Stone Mountain. Hike to the top of the granite mammoth, ride the skylift, or enjoy playgrounds, shows, food and shopping.
Callaway Resort and Gardens, Pine Mountain
Callaway Resort and Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, is an outdoor activity haven around and hour and 20 minutes from Atlanta. Nature trails, a butterfly observatory, outdoor playgrounds for the young and old, seasonal events and southern food add an exciting appeal to this mountain town that pops up out of nowhere in southwest Georgia. Callaway Resort and Gardens is a cozy spot to call home for a few days, with warm rooms and lavish on-site facilities rounding out the experience. A super special time to visit is during Christmas when they feature the drive thru holiday lights. Grab a bag of kettle corn from the concessions area after browsing the Christmas shop, and drive through snow flurries and animated displays.
Valhalla Resort Hotel, Helen
Valhalla Resort Hotel is located near the heart of Bavarian-style Helen, and its hilltop views in the Georgia mountains make for one dreamy atmosphere. Nearby, there are simple hiking trails and lovely cascades to see. But the relatively new constructed resort is cozy, with perks like a scenic swimming pool, a full-service spa with the most divine treatments, and a beautiful golf course. Snuggle by the fireplace in your room, and bask on the balcony while sipping wine — Valhalla is the perfect modern mountain escape that’s only about two hours from Atlanta.
Kingwood Resort & Winery, Clayton
Kingwood Resort & Winery is situated on a sloping hill of Clayton in the North Georgia Mountains, just under two hours northeast of Atlanta. An indoor pool with lots of sunlight is wonderful when it’s chilly outside, while there’s also the option to swim outside when the weather is nice. The grounds are lovely, with ponds, trees, trickling falls and expansive views drawing nature lovers in, and the pristine golf course is also easy on the eyes. Take advantage of the fitness center or hike nearby trails. And just a little cherry on top, the resort is pet-friendly.
Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club, Cordele
Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club is in Cordele, which would be about a two-hour trek south of Atlanta. The lakeside retreat is perfect for families wanting to rent a boat, kayak or paddleboat the South Georgia waters. But there are plenty of other things to do, from practicing your swing at the golf course, soaking in the pool or hot tub, chowing down at two on-site restaurants or just enjoying the screened-in porch. Visitors can opt to camp at the resort or spend the weekend playing golf. All that being said, if your group loves the outdoors, this is a win.
