Door County Band Camp

Door County Band Camp Weekend

Every fall, on the weekend after Labor Day, Hooked on Bands, Inc. hosts a Band Weekend that we lovingly call “Band Camp.” The three-day, total immersion weekend event is held in Bailey’s Harbor, Wisconsin in beautiful Door County, at Bjorklunden, the secluded, 425 wooded-acre Lawrence University retreat at the water’s edge. Open to members of any New Horizon Band world-wide*, the program includes full band workshop rehearsals as well as sectionals, which typically include woodwind and brass ensembles, a German "polka" band, a drum circle and other similar programs as time and interest permits.

The weekend begins at Noon on Friday and extends through Noon on Sunday. Time for shopping, attending theatrical performances, and just relaxing is built into the schedule, and many of our attendees elect to arrive on Thursday or extend their stays beyond Sunday to take in all the sites and activities that Door County has to offer. We always suggest that you make your housing reservations early as lodging is not part of your Band Camp registration fee. A good place to start is the official Door County Web Site.

Dinner at Florians with Toot to Boot

Door county band campOn Saturday night, we feature an optional dinner that is followed by two impromptu sessions; one for beginners to test their “chops” and a second for the more accomplished players to strut their stuff. It’s all great fun and because we are among friends… mistakes are allowed… even expected. So, if you have ever had the urge to stand up and give it a shot; if you have ever wanted to have a moment in the spotlight, then here’s your chance.  Applause is guaranteed!

Fun for Players at all Levels at Door County Band Camp

The Band Camp itself is designed for all music ability levels and is a terrific opportunity to improve your sight-reading skills and hone your ensemble playing abilities. We feature a mixture of music from easy to challenging and from a variety of genres from classical to contemporary to jazz. We also invite guest conductors from around the country to join our resident directors to give each Band Camp its own distinct character from year to year. If you have never been to Band Camp before, you are in for a wonderful experience, and if you are a returning musician you can expect another great time with like-minded friends new and old.

Affordable for All

Hooked on Bands, Inc. intentionally keeps the fees for Band Camp low so we can keep it affordable for as many folks as possible while covering our costs. We like to think that Band Camp is one of the best values around for musicians to enjoy a weekend of fun.
